The Absolutely True Diary wins another award. Sherman will receive a 2008 Washington Book Award - the Scandiuzzi Children's Book Award for middle grades and young adults. The award ceremony will ceremony will take place on October 22nd. Read more in the Seattle Times.
Sherman received the 2008 Stranger Genius Award in literature in Seattle on September 13th.
Sherman and Charles Burnett present a Milestone Film release of The Exiles, directed by Kent Mackenzie. Sherman will present the film at various film festivals - see calendar page for schedule. I am overjoyed that we have our first African American president, but I am
pissed that Proposition 8, the anti-gay marriage amendment, is passing in
California. According to exit polls, seventy percent of African Americans in
California voted against gay marriage. Yes, I am disgusted with the hypocrisy of
black homophobia. So let me protest that hypocrisy by celebrating these two
amazing artists: www.youtube.com & www.pbs.org.
